I Have Seen The Lord

Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.”

Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).

Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples,
“I have seen the Lord” and that he had said these things to her.
John 20:11-18

He is Risen!
Happy Easter!

What I'm Reading - Lead Your Family Like Jesus

My Thoughts

What I love about Lead Your Family Like Jesus is that it isn't another "how to" book that you can use to check things off of a list to be a better parent. Instead it is a book that invites you to learn more about Jesus and implement those lessons in your home with a servant heart like His. Each author writes from their experience as parents and all they have learned along the way.

I especially loved the chapter in which Tricia Goyer shared about her experience of getting overwhelmed by her every day schedule. She and her husband sat down to look at everything she was doing and came up with a plan. She assigned each activity with a number from 1 to 4. 1 being those things that she had to do. 2 being things that she should do. 3 being things that she enjoyed doing and helped her. 4 being things she was afraid to say no to or things she did to look good to others. She ended up cutting out all the 4s and even some of the 3s. Doing so enabled her to refocus and evaluate her heart in all she was doing.

I also loved that Tricia shared how she prays for her children.
She prays for their:

Head - that they will always lift their heads to look to the Lord and that they will allow God to life their heads when they are hurt or discouraged,
Shoulders - so they will learn to let God carry their burdens,
Knees - that they will get on their knees before God regularly, and
Toes - that a community of believers will surround them and keep them on their toes.

Love these messages from Tricia Goyer!

A Broken Jar Leaking Jesus

Today I am joining Lisa-Jo and friends for Five Minute Friday.
This is where we come together writing for 5 minutes without editing or overthinking.
I love this community.

Check out what everyone's is sharing on the word BROKEN here.

Five Minute Friday

The story of the Samaritan woman at the well grabbed hold of me this week and has yet to let go. This woman who began her day as any other. More than likely she was shunned by others due to her many marriages, so she would go to the well when others weren't there. Hiding herself so she wouldn't be seen. And when she arrives, there is Jesus. He does something that has to shock her - asks her for a drink. She might've had to do a double take thinking He couldn't possibly be talking to her.

Then He begins to share with her about quenching her thirst with living water. She was bold enough to ask questions of Him. Was it because she so longed not to be thirsty anymore? Knowing that nothing had filled her? Thinking that if she could be filled, she wouldn't have to come to that well anymore?

Then Jesus tells her about her life. He sees her. There was no judgement there. He knows. Acknowledging her. She pushed Him away with words of religion. He pulled her in with words of salvation. She had heard about the Messiah to come and He said "I am He." Imagine how overwhelming it must have been. Not only did this man speak to her when no one else would, but He saw her and knew her. There is something so powerful about being seen and known. This moment with Jesus changed everything.

She came for water and encountered Jesus.
Going into the town not even thinking of the mistreatment or judgement she could experience - that she had experienced. All she could do after meeting Jesus was tell everyone about Him and that they should come meet Him too.
She became a broken jar filled to overflow that leaked Jesus on everyone around her.
Her life the sermon.

Are you leaking Jesus on those around you?

The Action Bible - Review & Giveaway

I don't know who was more excited when I was asked to review The Action Bible - me or my guys. You would've thought that there was gold in the box when it arrived in the mail. I was surrounded by eager boys waiting to take a look at it.

The Story of David & Goliath

The Action Bible is a collection of over 200 stories from the Bible
done in graphic novel form in chronological order.

The Crucifixion of Jesus

What I love about this Bible is that it is specifically geared towards my sons. They are visual learners and it speaks to them through colorful and engaging pictures. I also love that it can be used in our family devotion time as a conversation starter.
The Action Bible is a huge hit in our house.

Here is what my guys had to say about it:

A Bible especially for me! How'd they know I love comic books Mom?
Coolest thing ever!
- Zachary (age 10)

I really like the pictures. They are so colorful. I like that the Bible stories
show what I have been reading in my Bible.
- Conner (age 15)

I like that it puts a face to the story which gets you more into it.
I think it will help those who think reading their Bibles is boring.
- AJ (age 16)

These books are fantastic companions to The Action Bible and we loved them.

My dearest, dreaming son...

My dearest, dreaming son...
How my heart is bursting for you.
To watch you chase your dream is overwhelming.

I remember the first time I heard you sing.
It caught me off guard...this beauty.
I will admit to you now that I wept.
Overtaken by the sweet sound of your voice.
A gift that God has given you that was hidden
until you were ready to grasp hold of it.

You didn't stop there.
You knew there was more to this dream.
You wanted to learn to play the guitar.
You didn't take lessons, but instead you immersed
yourself in listening and playing by ear.

I have watched you chase this dream
of music that fills your head and heart.
And I am in awe of you.

This past weekend you took a big step in this journey.
You performed at The Coffee Shop.

You gave me a smile and began to strum your guitar.
Then you began to sing and I was undone.
You are walking out this God-sized dream.
Step by step.
Fearless and brave you are, my son.

Daddy and I are so very proud of you.

I love you.
Always.
Mom

God-Sized Dreams

My friend Holley Gerth invited me to join a group of dreamers that she affectionately calls her God Sized Dream Team. What a blessing to be part of this group.
We will be gathering each week on Tuesdays at Holley's to encourage each other to dream those God sized dreams.

Won't you join us?
What is your God-sized dream?

Holley had written a love letter to dreamers. Her book You're Made for a God-Sized Dream is full of words of encouragement and will speak to your heart.

Missions Monday - Mercy Ships

It's time for Missions Monday.

Every Monday I will introduce you to some great charities that you can get involved in. When I say get involved, I mean you can donate your money, time, and/or pray for these organizations who are doing amazing things to help people.

Today I would like to introduce you to
Mercy Ships

From the website:

"Access to good medical care is the key to providing desperately needed hope and healing. But how can that be accomplished in countries without basic supporting infrastructure—including a clean water supply, a reliable source of electricity and trained medical professionals. The answer began in a dream of a hospital ship, a self-contained instrument of mercy that would take highly qualified volunteers to the people who need them most. That dream became Mercy Ships. Through the compassion of volunteers and donors, the 2,000-year-old example Jesus set of caring for the poor is being lived out on a daily basis."

Hosanna!

The next day, the news that Jesus was on the way
to Jerusalem swept through the city.
A large crowd of Passover visitors took palm branches
and went down the road to meet him.

They shouted,
Hosanna!
Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hail to the King of Israel!”

Jesus found a young donkey and rode on it,
fulfilling the prophecy that said:
“Don’t be afraid, people of Jerusalem.
Look, your King is coming,
    riding on a donkey’s colt.”

John 12:12-15

What I'm Reading - Jesus: Pure & Simple

My Thoughts

It's time to get back to Jesus.
- Wayne Cordeiro

Ever have a book read you instead of you reading it? That is what Jesus: Pure and Simple did to me. It was a book that I needed to read at exactly the time I needed to read it. There is just so much wisdom within the pages that I wore out my highlighter. Not only in the book itself, but in my Bible as I was constantly marking scripture referred to in the book.

One of my favorite chapters in the book is One Thing. Wayne shares the story of Martha and Mary as a reminder that only one thing is necessary (Luke 10:41-42).

Later in that same chapter he suggests four important principles
for growing closer to God through scripture:

Read the Bible daily.
Regularly take time for solitude.
Immerse yourself in gratefulness.
Regularly take time for reflection.

I loved this book and would recommend it highly.

You can purchase this book here:

About the Book

Here's something refreshing: a pure and simple devotion to Christ.
Sounds wonderfully inviting, doesn't it?

And the good news is that it's not about doing more or doing less. Because God created you in His image, the more you become like Jesus, the more you become the person you were created to be. It is in Him that you actually find fulfillment, not in religious activities (as good as they may be) or in serene settings that give you a needed respite from your harried workplace. He is not the rest from our labors. He is the rest in our labors.

"A promise remains of entering His rest" (Hebrews 4:1). It's the rest of a child close to his mother. It's the rest that comes when we are near the one we love. It's the rest we find when we are walking through unfamiliar surroundings with a guide who knows the way.

The closer you get to Jesus, the more at home you will feel in this journey.
God designed it that way.

I Want Them To Remember

Today I am joining Lisa-Jo and friends for Five Minute Friday.
This is where we come together writing for 5 minutes without editing or overthinking.
I love this community.

Check out what everyone's is sharing on the word REMEMBER here.

Five Minute Friday

I have been thinking a lot lately about the legacy I want to leave for my sons.
What do I want them to remember about me?

I want them to remember what my laugh sounded like and that I did it often even when things were hard...especially then.

I want them to remember the cuddles and kisses and whispered conversations when I tucked them in at night.

I want them to remember that whenever they were near I couldn't resist the chance to hug on them.

I want them to remember that I made mistakes and it was only in those mistakes that I truly learned what grace means.

I want them to remember that I listened and really heard their hearts even when they couldn't put it into words.

I want them to remember that I adored their daddy and that marriage isn't always easy, but is always a gift.

I want them to remember that I believed in miracles and that they are possible even in the every day moments.

I want them to remember that I was head over heels in love with Jesus which made loving them so much more.

I want them to remember that I loved.
That most of all.

What do you want your children to remember about you?

10 Ways To Show Respect To Our Husbands

In our Bible study these past few weeks, we have been talking about marriage. Enhancing our marriages strengthens our partnership in parenting which directly impacts our children. Our marriages also help form our children's picture of marriage and the roles they will play when they get married later.

Throughout scripture God describes our responsibilities as wives
and what living these out will teach our children.

One of these is found in Ephesians 5:33,

Each man must love his wife as he loves himself,
and the wife must respect her husband. (NLT)

God commands us to respect our husbands as He knows how it speaks
to their hearts. As we wives crave love, our husbands crave respect.

What does that look like?
How do we show our husbands respect?

Judy Rossi breaks it down into 10 A's
using the Amplified translation of Ephesians 5:33.

...let the wife see that she respects and reverences her husband (AFFECTION) that she notices him (ATTENTION), regards him (ATTITUDE), honors him (AFFIRMATION), prefers him (ALLEGIANCE), venerates and esteems him (ACCEPTANCE); and that she defers to him (ADAPTION), praises him (APPRECIATION), and loves (ADORATIONand admires him exceedingly (APPROVAL).

10 Ways To Show Respect To Our Husbands

Reverence is an attitude of deep respect and esteem mingled with - AFFECTION.
Titus 2:3-4

Notice is the act of noting, observing, or remarking - ATTENTION.
Song of Solomon 5:10-16

Regard is to look upon or think of in a particular way - ATTITUDE.
Philippians 2:3-4
Ephesians 4:31-32

Honor is to hold in honor or high respect; to show respect to; treat with honor - AFFIRMATION.
Proverbs 31:10-12, 23-31

Prefer is to set above something else in estimation; to hold in greater favor or esteem - ALLEGIANCE.
Genesis 2:24
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Mark 10:9

Esteem is to regard as having a certain value - ACCEPTANCE.
Romans 15:7

Defer means to yield to another's opinion; to submit or give way courteously or from respect - ADAPTION.
Ephesians 5:22-24
Colossians 3:18
1 Peter 3:1-6

Praise is to commend or applaud; to extol in words or song - APPRECIATION.
James 3:9-10

Love is to have strong or passionate affection for, as for one of the opposite sex - ADORATION.
Proverbs 5:15-19

Admire is to regard with wonder mingled with satisfaction and approval; to take pleasure in the excellence or beauty of; to look on or contemplate with pleasure - APPROVAL.
Genesis 2:7-8, 15, 18, 21-23

As we make the choice to respect our husbands, our perception of them as our leaders, protectors, and providers evolves. This in turn transforms how we view them as fathers and how our children see them as well.

Our husbands need to know that we are their greatest admirers and biggest fans.

How do you show respect to your husband?
