GCHope is privileged to work with diverse individuals and communities both locally and around the world, providing supplies for projects that focus on needs of children and serve the poor.

GCHope works to promote family sustainability, economic independence, and self-sufficiency so that children can grow in stable environments. GCHope also plays a role in the development and rehabilitation of under-resourced clinics, hospitals, and orphanages. Our supplies mobilize organizations so that they can focus on implementation; this empowers communities to reach those caught in hopelessness and work toward self-sustainability.

No Child Should Go Hungry - Summer Food Programs

School is officially out for summer in Sevier County and most of our children are looking forward to the break from school. There are some kids that aren't though.

In Sevier County schools 62% of children received free or reduced lunch this year. For some of these children, the meals they received at school are the only ones they would have all day. Now that school is out, will these children go hungry?

That is the question that haunted me Friday.

Will they go hungry?

So I began to research and found several food programs

in our area as well as surrounding areas.

Summer Food Programs

Sevier County

The Boys & Girls Clubs will be serving FREE breakfast and lunch 

for children under the age of 18 at all 5 of their locations. 

Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30am 

and lunch is served from 11am to 1pm.

Children do not have to be enrolled

and no paperwork is necessary.

Knox County

The Knox County Community Action Commitee will be serving breakfast and lunch at 85 locations. You can find a listing of the summer food service sites here. Some sites are on a walk-in basis and others require registration. You can contact CAC by phone at 865-546-3500 for more information.

Blount County

At Eagleton Middle, Rockford Elementary, and Mary Blount schools they will be serving lunch on a walk-in basis all summer from 11am to 1pm. No registration or ID necessary.

Loudon County

Loudon County Schools also have a program. 

 You can find more by calling 865-458-5411, Ext. 1011.

Roane County

In Harriman, The Kitchen will be serving FREE lunch from 11am to 1pm beginning this week. It is located at 229 Carter St.

More Programs

Through the East Tennessee Human Resource Agency (ETHRA), several other counties in our region have summer lunch programs. They include: Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke, Cumberland, Grainger, Greene, Jefferson, Roane, Scott, Sevier and Union counties.

I know there are many more organizations in our area that will be helping to feed children over the summer. These are the programs that I was able to find out about in just a few days. I am so thankful for the representatives from these organizations that  spoke to me and shared their resources.

Angel House

India is the 2nd most populous nation in the world with 1.2 billion people, following behind China. Research shows that by the year 2020, India will take the number one spot. Of these precious people, there are an estimated 25 million orphans roaming the streets. That's 25 million children waiting to be rescued, and it is our mission to do so.

We believe every one of these Indian orphans deserves a true childhood. In India, children that are left abandoned on the streets most likely end up in 1 of 3 places: trapped in force child labor, begging on the streets, or sold into sex slavery. Chances are that once these children are subjected to one of these lifestyles, they rarely find their way out. At Angel House, we feel an urgency to passionately pursue this rescue and to save the children before it is too late and act as a preventative measure.

It is the passion of Angel House to bring abandoned children from the slum to safety and into the loving arms of caretakers that will educate, love and raise them to become future leaders in their generation.

Days Three & Four: The LORD's Child in Orbit Village

The LORD's Child mission team served so many in the clinic these two days.

Day Two: The LORD's Child in Orbit Village

Day Two

The LORD's Child mission team opened the clinic yesterday.

They treated 72 adults and children with various illnesses and diseases. 
There are already 84 more registered to be seen today.

The children spent time coloring and playing games.

My friend Nicole spoke to the hearts of the women.

The LORD's Child mission team with be in Orbit Village all week 

and I will be sharing their stories of all God is doing there.

Day One: The LORD's Child in Orbit Village

They also celebrated Christy's birthday with cake & ice cream with the children.

The LORD's Child in The Orbit Village

Today The LORD's Child mission team is setting up a clinic in The Orbit Village. There they will be ministering to the physical and spiritual needs of many children.

The Orbit Village is located about 20 miles from downtown Nairobi. 

It is a small, dusty village inside of a rock quarry.

Cyndy Walters formed The Orbit Village Project

after visiting the worker's camp in 1995.

"There within the rock, I felt the presence of Jesus Christ in a life changing force. I believe it was as powerful as if I had been with the women leaving the tomb that day when they met the resurrected Christ. He had been waiting for me there at Orbit...

I felt His arms reach out, welcoming me."

The Orbit School of the Cross was started in 1996 to help educate the children whose parents worked in local quarries outside of Nairobi. 

Today Orbit hosts over 500 students from Baby Class to High School.

The Orbit Child Refuge has rescued many children and given them a family to belong to forever. Many of the children lost their parents to AIDS related illnesses, some were abandoned and others were failing to thrive in their home situation.

An Exciting Announcement - Blogging for The Lord's Child

I am extremely passionate about organizations that are doing good in their own communities and around the world especially when it comes to children.

That's why I am over the top excited to announce

that I will now be blogging for an incredible organization 

- The LORD's Child.

The LORD's Child is a non-profit humanitarian organization 
born out of a great concern for traditional and social orphans 
whose mission is to reach poor and impoverished children around the world.

The LORD's Child is lending a hand to the poor and needy children in our world. 

It provides food, clothing, school supplies and Christmas toys for American children. 

It also provides shelter, schools, health care and clean water for children in Uganda, South Africa, Kenya and India.

What I will be doing is sharing the stories.

The stories of the children.

The stories of the communities.

Right now a missions team is on its way to Kenya. They will be hosting a medical clinic at Orbit Village in Nairobi while serving children in an orphanage, school, and a refugee camp in some of the poorest areas of Nairobi. They will be ministering both physically and spiritually to over 450 children.

For the next few weeks, I will be sharing the stories

of how the LORD is moving in the heart of Kenya.
