Today I am joining Lisa-Jo and friends for Five Minute Friday.
This is where we come together writing for 5 minutes without editing or overthinking.
I love this community.
Check out what everyone's is sharing on the word AFTER here.
Today was one of those conversations with my mentor that was both encouraging and challenging. After I got off the phone with her, I couldn't get one thing out of my head.
Am I pursuing ministry more than Jesus?
You see there are times that I get caught up in the "doing" and lose sight of the "why."
I could rattle off to you the many reasons that I do what I do, but it all comes down to one thing. The most important thing.
Jesus loves me and I love Him.
Everything that I do from mothering to ministry flows out of that love.
He has to come first in all of it.
And sometimes I fail.
I try to do it on my own, inviting Him into the place where I am
when all along it's His invitation that I am responding to.
And then there's grace.
He gently reminds me that it is only by Him, for Him,
and through Him that any of it is possible.
I want to pursue Him above all.
To stop striving for anything more than Him.
To be so lost in Jesus that there is where I am found.
That is my prayer today.
Look to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.
Psalm 105:4

Hey Wendy...we were neighbors last week for Five Minute Friday too. We must have the same schedule!! Anyway, I loved this thought. So good things to ponder on for sure!

Oh dear one we all fail. I'm so glad to not be alone in this. And you are right to lean into the grace and seek him. I'm learning this every day and failing just as often. :) In Him, your friend Jessie
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful post Wendy. To be so lost in Jesus, that I am find IN Him. Abiding in Him is where I gain my peace, my strength, my hope. I need a mentor in my life, who will continually remind me of the proper perspective. Love you!
ReplyDeleteAmen, and a great reminder. He's constantly asking me this same question, and I regularly return to a moment of yielding to Him...
ReplyDeleteExactly! I was just thinking this very same thing--you say it so beautifully. Thank you Sister!
ReplyDeleteBe Blessed.
Lovely post.
ReplyDeleteDear Wendy
ReplyDeleteI have found in my life that being in Him, allowing Him to live in me was where the "I" as I knew it, died!! And I wouldn't have it any other way!
Thank you for being so open and honest.
Blessings
"Everything I do from mothering to ministry flows out of that love." Oh, how I loved this line, Wendy. I ate it right up! This is a convicting reminder to hold tight to Jesus and allow Him to push us along the ministry path in His time, as He wills it to be. I so appreciated your words this morning!
ReplyDeleteSeeking ministry more than Jesus is something I have struggled with. When I first started whenever I would hear preaching, read a devotion or read my bible I would be looking at it to see if I could write a speaking message from it. I should have been listening For God's voice to teach me, personally, what I needed to learn. I can't said I always to it but now I have learned to divide my own bible study from my studying to teach. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy, I hadn't stopped by in a while and I saw you a Lisa-Jo's place...what a great post. Seeking Jesus above all else...good thoughts for me to ponder.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I stopped by.
"To stop striving for anything more than Him." This is powerful...and such the reminder I need every day of my life! Thank you for sharing, friend...I love your heart. Blessings on your day! :)
ReplyDelete"To be so lost in Jesus that there is where I am found." Amen sweet friend! And this song? Sister... we could seriously hang out! Love you so!
ReplyDeleteGreat post as usual! My husband and I struggled with placing ministry before God all last year. Instead of keeping our priorities 1.) God, 2.) Family, 3.) Ministry, we were totally off balance. God has helped us straighten out our lives. Praying He continues to do a mighty work in you! Hopping over from the FMF linkup.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, and I too ask that why am I doing what I am doing. ~To be lost in Jesus that there is where I am found~ love!!
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy! I just wanted to let you know I stopped over for a while from UBP13. We have a church called The Gathering in our town. How neat is that! Hope you have a blessed weekend. Amy
ReplyDeleteYes, it must all flow from Him and our love relationship with Him, and it is so easy to lose that focus for all of us...So glad you have found it again...Appreciate you and your words, Wendy :)
