What I'm Reading - Deep & Wide

My Thoughts

Deep & Wide is a book about the heart of a pastor and the church he shepherds. Andy Stanley shares not only his journey as a pastor, but also insight and wisdom in how to create a church that reaches out to the unchurched.

"The Church is the local expression of the presence
of Jesus. We are His body."
- Andy Stanley

These are the sections of the book and what he shares about in each one.

Section One - His personal story
Section Two - Biblical justification for approach to church
Section Three - Spiritual formation model
Section Four - Essential ingredients for irresistible environments
Section Five - Leading a local church through change

He also shares the North Point template for weekend services
and details all the elements involved.

One of my favorite parts of the book is where he shares
measurable ministry wins for children's ministry.

Preschool

Primary Win: To make a first impression of the heavenly Father in such a way it makes a lasting impression on the heart of a child.
Measurable Wins:
Kids attend.
New kids connect.
Parents partner with us.
Volunteer leaders are retained.

Elementary

Primary Win: To guide children to put their faith in Jesus and to teach them who God is and how He wants them to live.
Measurable Wins:
Kids attend.
Parents partner with us.
Kids take a next step.
Volunteer leaders are retained.

There is such a wealth of information contained in this book. I took pages and pages of notes. This is a book I highly recommend to everyone in ministry - both staff and volunteers.
