Missions Monday - 1000 Shillings

It's time for Missions Monday.

Every Monday I will introduce you to some great charities that you can get involved in. When I say get involved, I mean you can donate your money, time, and/or pray for these organizations who are doing amazing things to help people.

Today I would like to introduce you to
1000 Shillings.

From the website:

"1000 Shillings aims to connect people around the world through storytelling and high-quality artisan products. We strive to replicate the unique experience of buying from a local artisan while shopping in an international marketplace.

Each product sold on 1000 Shillings is unique to the website and sold as a limited edition piece.  When you buy from 1000 Shillings your money is going to help the women we work with start their own small businesses with the ultimate goal of empowering them to stand alone as small business owners.

The goal of 1000 Shillings is that you get to know the woman you are buying from, and then, through purchasing her products, you help her to become a self-sufficient businesswoman that is able to support her family."

They are currently working with six single mothers in the Namatala slum, Uganda. These women create beautiful paper bead jewelry, and are the first women to produce products for 1000 Shillings.

Meet these creative moms:
