The Roots of Our Family

Today I am joining Lisa-Jo and friends for Five Minute Friday.
This is where we come together writing for 5 minutes without editing or overthinking.
I love this community.

Check out what everyone's is sharing on the word ROOTS here.

Five Minute Friday

The roots of our family were planted with a seed
standing before our loved ones 20 years ago.
That moment when we said yes to each other and meant it forever

Has it always been easy?
No.
There has been pruning.
But those cut branches have made room for the growth of more good.
There have been storms.
But those roots planted have kept us grounded
when the wind and rain have tried to batter.
Oh the beauty that has grown out of that seed and those roots.

I see the fruit of it in our sons.
They know great love because of what they have seen in us.
They have seen us love so well.
They have also seen when we haven't and learned what grace means.
They have seen hand holding and tears wiped away.
They have seen the looks exchanged across the room
and the laughter shared across the years.
They know love.

We planted that babe.
With every moment shared.
With every word spoken.
With every action taken.
With a promise.
Forever.

"...and the two of them become one."
Genesis 2:24

  3. I just love love love hearing about anniversaries and hard love and making it work and glorifying God in the vows. It's so rare in so many ways as this culture devours marriage. Congratulations. I am serving you cake and saying a toast, "To many more years together, celebrating a life consecrated by God and held together by love and grace. " Hoorah!

  9. We're approaching our 10 year mark, and continue to be encouraged by those whose seeds have been sprouting a few years longer than ours. May His Kingdom continue to grow as we tend to the Spirit moving through our families...

  11. So very lovely... ahhhh... my heart is warmer now than when I started reading! I was so sorry to miss the party last night (another performance and this time, I showed my face without a bandaid covering my melanoma scar!) but am so glad to read you today.

Breathing deeply. Feeling the love across the miles.

  16. Wendy,

I love this... I attempt to LIVE this! We have one child - a 17yr old DD... and she too has watched us love and grow and become more and more one. My prayer is that she learns from our example and our shortcomings too. I pray that she is blessed with an amazing man one day who will resemble her father (and her Father!) in many ways! (So I LOVE that you have sons!)

    Blessings,
    ~Karrilee~
