What I'm Reading - The Marriage of Your Dreams

My Thoughts

The more I read The Marriage of Your Dreams the more I realized that this isn't just a book that speaks to me about being a better wife to my husband, but also a better mother to my sons. In the first chapter of the book, Rick Johnson addresses the importance of a mother's influence on a man.

"A man's mother models several important roles in his life. She is the first role model of femininity and she is the first role model of female sexuality. She models how a women relates to and treats a man, and she models how a woman should expect to be treated by a man. She is the model of how a woman respects and loves a man and how a woman receives love from a man."

This chapter made me think not only of how my husband's mother has influenced him, but also how I am influencing my sons.

Rick Johnson goes on to share on various topics including a father's influence, relationships, communication, work, and sexuality.

In Chapter 7, he talks about a man's need for his wife's respect and admiration. He says that a man needs these more than he needs love. He shares about how important it is to men to have an encouraging wife.

"There are few things that an authentically masculine man will not attempt to accomplish or endure if he knows he has a supportive wife who believes in him. He will withstand anything life dishes out if he has his wife there to encourage him. He can persevere through defeats and failures with the positive support of his treasured wife. A man whose wife respects him walks proud and confident into the world."

I like that this book challenged me on both levels - as a wife and mother.

About the Book

Men are fairly simple creatures with fairly simple needs. Yet women often find themselves frustrated trying to understand those needs in order to improve their marriages. Many wonder, "What does he expect from me? I'm doing everything the best I can. Doesn't he know I'm at the end of my rope here?" Relationship expert Rick Johnson ends the guessing game, giving women an open and honest look inside the world of a man's needs and helping them understand how best to use their influence to have a satisfying and exciting relationship.

Rick delves into the not-so-mysterious-after-all world of a man, highlighting his need for respect and admiration, his sexual desires, his communication style, his work, his emotions, and even his relationship with the "other woman"--his mother. Women will appreciate Rick's candor, humor, and insight as they discover that the marriage of their dreams is closer than they ever thought it could be.

  5. This is a great book wherein Mr. Rick Johnson explores a man’s relationships, work, and sexuality together with the need for admiration. Actually, this is a book that explains a husband’s capability to meet his wife's needs. It should give us a great explanation about the differences between a male and a female, and present concrete solutions for them to co-exist with one another. :)

    Regards,
    Neil
