I Can Almost See Jesus

I watch my son floating on his back.
He isn't thinking about anything else.
He is just free.
It is like watching him worship.
Arms stretched out.
Pure joy.
I have to take the picture.
What a gift this moment is.

He swims over to me coming in close.
He reaches out to connect.
Touching my shoulder.
Wiping my hair away from my eyes so he can look at me.
In that space where it is only us circling in the cool water.

He says,
"Momma, I can almost see Jesus when I lay on my back like that."

I respond with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes,
"Me too, baby. Me too."
