Enough for Today

I have been camped out in the story of Moses leading the Israelites
out of Egypt and towards the Promised Land for a few weeks now.

This part of the story is found in Exodus 16.

So it's about thirty days into the journey
and the Isrealites begin to complain.
They are hungry and begin to discuss all the foods
they had when they were back in Egypt.

Then the Lord said to Moses,
“Look, I’m going to rain down
food from heaven for you.
Each day the people can go out
and pick up as much food
as they need for that day."
(verse 4)

I love that God answered their complaints with a blessing.
He didn't give them a lecture on all He had done for them.
He just blessed them.

Hungry?
How about some heaven sent food?

What really struck me about this part of their story is...

"...as much food as they need for that day."

It reminded me of this part of The Lord's Prayer:

Give us this day our daily bread.
Matthew 6:11

He was providing food for the Israelites for each day.
Not an overabundance, but enough.

Then when Jesus was asked how we should pray,
He said to ask for our daily bread.
Not for tomorrow, but for today.

This promise wasn't just for them.
The promise of enough for today is for us as well.

If we concentrate of being thankful for what He provides for today,
then we are less apt to worry about the provision for tomorrow.
We can stand on the promise of
enough for today.

  1. Do I ever need to remember this on a daily basis!! "Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself..."
God is so faithful. But he named himself "I AM," not "I Was" or "I Will Be." He is in the here and now, and that should be enough for us, too. :)

    Thank you for this!

I just finished a long series on being "Thankful" and I used the Isrealites and their journey to the Promised Land too. :)

  6. Yes! Yes! YES! His grace IS sufficient and to keep focused on the day at hand is what we need in order to keep our sanity. Our Lord knows it well and He tells us many times, but we tend to forget...at least I tend to forget...but thanks to Scripture-Inspired posts like yours we can refocus and turn our eyes on Him once again and on His perfect provision. Blessings! and thanks for the post.

    1. Thanks Theresa! I know how hard it is to forgive sometimes as well as trust for provision. Thankful that He reminds me of the fact that He has done both for me. Will be praying for you friend. Blessings!

  10. I often forget, in thinking of the things I would like to have, of the blessings of having enough. Of having enough food to eat for today. Of having enough money to pay our bills for today. Often I find myself feeling particularly greedy. When enough isn't. Thank you for this gentle reminder! And for sharing it on NOBH!
