Doing this series on Wednesdays gives me an opportunity to share what I am reading. This may vary from week to week as I tend to read multiple books at a time.
I just finished reading this incredible book that was recommended by several friends. This isn't your run of the mill "How to book" about meetings. The author uses a fantastic story of a CEO and his team that are having issues with their weekly meetings and how his new assistant changes all that to drive his points home. One of the things I loved about the story was the assistant's use of television and movies to characterize the different types of meetings and the reason for having them.
The four types he brings to the team's attention are:
- Daily Check-in - Daily Headline News
- Weekly Tactical - Weekly Sitcom/Crime Drama
- Monthly Strategic - Movie
- Quarterly Off-site Review - Mini-series
To find out more about these and much more, I highly recommend that you read this book.
I absolutely love reading a book that gets my mind running a hundred miles a minute. Even this is a book discussing the challenges of meetings in a business setting, my mind went to thinking of ways how it can be applied to meetings in Children's Ministry.
What are you reading right now?
I read his book Getting Naked and LOVED IT!! I also heard him speak at Willow Creek's Leadership Summit last year and I hung on his every word. Lencioni is a great speaker and great author. I have this book on my "to read" list for this year. I'm excited about getting to it now. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDiana...this is the book that hooked me to his writing. Such wisdom. I am sure hearing him speak in person was fantastic. What topic did he speak on? I haven't read Getting Naked but have it on my wish list. Thanks for the recommend! Blessings!
