Missions Monday

I have started something new on Mondays here on my blog - Missions Monday. I am going to be introducing you to some great charities that you and your family can get involved in. When I say get involved, I mean you can donate your money, time, and/or pray for these organizations who are doing amazing things to help people.

Today I would like to introduce you to Soles4Souls. Soles4Souls is a Nashville-based charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity distributes these shoes free of charge to people in need. The mission is simple: get shoes and give them away. I love the heart of this nonprofit.

Wayne Elsey began this journey after watching a shoe wash up on the beach during television coverage of the tsunami in 2004. Now 11,342,519 (and counting) pairs of shoes later there is still a need for more shoes. Over 300 million children worldwide are without shoes. Soles4Souls is definitely changing the world - one pair at a time. Won't you join them?

Here are a few ways you can get involved posted on their website:

Clean out Your Closets
Send us your shoes! We want the leftovers in your closet. People across North America are cleaning out their closets and shipping their new or gently worn shoes to one of our warehouse facilities or drop them off at one of our participation locations. It’s a great way to recycle the shoes you are not using!

Host a Barefoot Event
Congregations can be challenged to have all of their members leave their shoes at the door as an act of worship and selflessness. What better way to bring personal involvement to helping those less fortunate!

Sponsor a Country or Community

Raise funds with a creative fundraiser or a special offering to help an area of your choice. Through this method, your congregation can provide the financial support to have Soles4Souls deliver shoes to a destination of your choice!

You can learn more about how you can help and all the amazing work they are doing at their website:

I've added our drop box locator for people to easily find a drop box near them: http://www.soles4souls.org/about/locations.html

    Thanks!
